Hardwood, Aluminium or uPVC?
Each site and every conservatory is different; our philosophy has always been to use the materials that are right for that particular job. It must be said that the windows and roof materials form only a part of the overall product; the design, base work, finishing and service are all important factors.
Hardwood
The majority of conservatories we build are manufactured in hardwood. The main species of timber we use is Sapele, a durable fine-grained hardwood with excellent strength characteristics. Similar hardwoods such as Idigbo or Utile may also be used.
Aluminium
We are seeing an increasing interest in aluminium conservatories, particularly for more modern designs. Aluminium tends to be favoured by architects, engineers and other building professionals for its inherent strength and slim, neat lines.
uPVC
Nationwide, the majority of conservatories are built in uPVC. The main reason it’s popular is because it is the cheapest material and the main reason it’s the cheapest material is because it’s so popular! There are great economies of scale and lots of competition in the uPVC market, which helps drive prices down.
In many situations uPVC is the most appropriate product and we would have no hesitation in recommending it.
